At the OEM level

Low-cost manufacturing is easy to find. A low-cost manufacturer that holds your tolerances, packs parts the way your line needs them, and ships on your MRP schedule is much harder to find. That gap is what a sourcing services company is for.

Why Back Bay

What Sets Our Sourcing Services Apart

Plenty of sourcing companies hand you a factory contact and disappear. We remain your local point of contact throughout the specifications, sampling, approval, and production process. We've worked at the OEM level since 1983, so we know what purchasing and engineering will ask before they ask it.

Industrial Parts Procurement From Quote to Dock

Overseas quotes often come Ex Works (EXW), which means the price stops at the factory door, and freight, duty, and warehousing are your problem. We quote at whatever point you need: EXW, landed (delivered with freight and duty included), or landed-and-warehoused. We can also set up delivery-to-schedule programs tied to your MRP releases.

When Global Sourcing Makes Sense, and When It Doesn't

It usually pays off when
✓The part has stable specs and steady annual volume
✓Your domestic price is out of line with the market
✓You need capacity your current supplier can’t add
It usually doesn't when
–A design is still changing
–Volumes are small and irregular
–A line-down risk outweighs the savings

In those cases, we'll tell you to stay domestic. Many of our principals build in the USA.

Project story

Eliminating Stock-Outs on High-Volume Precision Machined Parts

An OEM was facing frequent production interruptions because its domestic suppliers couldn't keep up with the manufacturing schedule for very intricate, high-volume machined parts. Back Bay brought in our experienced precision machining partner with a tailored supply program built around DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) pricing and local warehousing. That program stayed cost-competitive with the U.S. incumbents while eliminating stock-outs. The customer's supply problems disappeared, and the relationship is now growing substantially.

Global Sourcing FAQ

It finds and manages overseas manufacturers for a buyer’s parts, handling supplier selection, quoting, quality follow-up, and logistics. The buyer gets lower costs without managing factories directly.

The part price plus freight, duty, and other charges to deliver it to your location.

Ex Works (EXW) is an Incoterm meaning the price covers the goods at the factory only. The buyer arranges and pays for everything after pickup.
