High-Volume and Precision Plastic Injection Molding for OEMs

The Back Bay Associates represents world-class plastic injection molders in the USA and overseas. They support OEMs from low-volume plastic injection molding through high-volume production runs, with design and modeling support and a choice of domestic or overseas plastic injection mold tooling.

Pilot to production

Most molding problems trace back to decisions made before the tool was cut. That's why we want to see parts early.

A wall too thin to fill

02

A gate that leaves a visible blemish

03

A low-price resin that warps with temperature

Molding programs

From pilot quantities to long production runs

Our principals mold engineered parts that fit, snap, and seal inside HVAC components and Food Service Equipment.

Long runs

High Volume Injection Molding

Molders use modern equipment and integrated robotics to keep cycle-to-cycle variation low across long runs. Inspection is built into production instead of saved for the end of the run.

Tight tolerances

High Precision Injection Molding

Our principals mold engineered components to tight tolerances for parts that must fit, snap, and seal inside your equipment.

Pilot quantities

Low Volume Plastic Injection Molding

Short runs and pilot quantities are supported, so you can validate a part before committing to full production tooling.

Tooling

Plastic Injection Mold Tooling: Domestic or Overseas

Tooling is usually the highest upfront cost in a molding program. Overseas tooling lowers that initial investment; domestic tooling is faster to revise.

TurnaroundFaster
Ease of revisionEasier
Upfront savingsHigher

Domestic tooling turns around faster and is easier to revise when the design changes.

Also confirm tool ownership and expected tool life before you commit. A mold built for a few thousand shots isn't the same tool as one built for millions.

Before production

Design and Modeling Support

Before production, our principals review part geometry, material selection, and tooling considerations such as draft angles, wall thickness, and gate location.

Project story

Restoring Quality and Delivery Through Disciplined Tooling Maintenance

An OEM was struggling with ongoing quality, engineering, and delivery problems from its incumbent injection molding supplier after an ownership change, and the root cause turned out to be poorly maintained tooling that couldn't hold consistent quality at high volume. Back Bay brought in our injection molding manufacturer to walk the OEM's team through its proven tooling maintenance program and other productivity levers, such as robotic part production. That transparency earned the OEM's trust, and the program moved to our principal for consistent, reliable high-volume production.

Molding FAQ

It’s producing large quantities of identical plastic parts from a production mold, typically with hardened steel tooling and automation to keep cost per part low.

Domestic tooling is faster to revise, while overseas tooling usually costs less upfront. The right choice depends on volume, timeline, budget, and how settled the design is.

Ownership terms vary by program. Confirm them in writing before tooling starts.

Yes, from short runs to high-volume production.

Have a part before the tool is cut?

Send the 3D model early. That's when it's cheapest to get right.
